Evening: Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri
As the sun sets, prepare for one of the most mesmerizing experiences of your journey – the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri. This sacred ritual, held on the banks of the Ganges, is a divine spectacle of lamps, chants, and devotion. Witnessing thousands of devotees offering prayers amidst the rhythmic sound of bells creates an atmosphere of pure spirituality. You can participate in the ritual by lighting a diya (lamp) and setting it afloat on the river.
Overnight Stay in Haridwar
After the Aarti, return to your hotel for a traditional vegetarian dinner and rest for the night. A good night’s sleep will prepare you for the next leg of your divine journey to Badrinath Dham.
Stay tuned for Day 2, where we continue our Yatra from Haridwar to Joshimath!
After a spiritually enriching stay in Haridwar, Day 2 of your Badrinath Dham Yatra begins with an early morning departure towards the sacred town of Badrinath, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas. The journey, spanning approximately 330 km and taking around 9.5 hours, offers breathtaking views of the mountains, rivers, and valleys, making it a mesmerizing experience.
As you leave Haridwar, the route follows the picturesque landscapes of Rishikesh, often called the “Yoga Capital of the World.” You may catch glimpses of the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat or the famous Laxman Jhula before continuing the drive.
The journey then moves towards Devprayag, where the rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi meet, officially forming the holy Ganga River. A brief stop here allows pilgrims to witness this sacred confluence and seek blessings.
Further along, the route passes through Rudraprayag, another spiritual junction where Alaknanda meets Mandakini River. The divine aura of this place makes it a perfect stop for reflection and prayers.
The drive continues through the scenic towns of Karnaprayag, Nandprayag, and Joshimath, each offering panoramic views of the snow-clad peaks and lush green valleys. Joshimath is a major halt for travelers heading towards Badrinath, as it houses the Adi Shankaracharya Math, an important pilgrimage site.
Reaching Badrinath & Evening Darshan
By late afternoon or evening, you will reach the Badrinath Dham, one of the holiest Char Dham shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Before visiting the temple, devotees take a dip in the Tapt Kund, a natural hot water spring believed to have medicinal and spiritual benefits.
After refreshing, you can proceed for the evening aarti and darshan at the revered Badrinath Temple, where the divine idol of Lord Vishnu awaits in all its grandeur. The temple, set against the backdrop of the Neelkanth Peak, exudes a celestial charm, filling devotees with serenity and devotion.
With hearts full of spirituality, you retire for the night, preparing for the next divine experiences of the yatra.
The third day of your Badrinath Dham Yatra begins with an early morning holy dip in the sacred Tapt Kund, a natural hot water spring believed to have medicinal properties. This ritual bath purifies the soul and prepares devotees for the divine darshan of Badri Vishal Temple. If time permits, you can also visit the Nag Nagin Pith, a significant spiritual site known for Sarpkal Dosh Nivaran. Devotees believe that worshipping here removes serpent-related doshas and brings peace and prosperity.
After seeking blessings at Badrinath, embark on a scenic drive toward Rudraprayag or Srinagar, passing through the confluences of some of the holiest rivers of Uttarakhand. The first stop en route is Vishnuprayag, where the Alaknanda River meets the Dhauliganga River, creating a mesmerizing view. This confluence is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and holds great religious importance.
Continuing the journey, the next sacred confluence is Karnprayag, where the Alaknanda River merges with the Pindar River. It is believed that Karna, the great warrior from the Mahabharata, meditated here and received divine blessings from Lord Surya. The spiritual aura of this place fills the heart with serenity.
Moving further, you will reach Nandprayag, another holy confluence where the Alaknanda and Nandakini Rivers meet. This town is named after King Nanda, the foster father of Lord Krishna, and is considered an auspicious place for meditation and spiritual enlightenment.
After a soul-stirring journey through these sacred sites, you will finally arrive in Rudraprayag or Srinagar, depending on your chosen itinerary. Rudraprayag is renowned for the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers and is associated with Lord Shiva, while Srinagar is known for its historical and cultural significance in the Garhwal region.
Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and relax after a spiritually enriching day. Enjoy the serene ambiance of the town and prepare for the next leg of your divine journey. Overnight stay in Rudraprayag/Srinagar.
As the sun rises over the serene landscapes of Rudraprayag or Srinagar, begin your day with a refreshing and healthy breakfast, fueling yourself for the journey ahead. Today marks the return to Haridwar, a significant stop that holds deep spiritual and cultural importance in the journey of Badrinath Dham Yatra.
Set out on a scenic drive back to Haridwar, covering approximately 150.4 km in about 5.5 hours. As you descend from the lofty mountains, witness the breathtaking vistas of the Himalayan foothills, lush green valleys, and the sacred rivers flowing alongside, making the journey as mesmerizing as the pilgrimage itself.
Upon reaching Haridwar, check in at your hotel and take some time to relax and unwind after the long journey. Rejuvenate yourself in the peaceful ambiance before heading out to one of the most spiritually uplifting experiences of the trip—visiting Har Ki Pauri. This revered ghat on the banks of the holy Ganges is believed to be the spot where Lord Vishnu left his footprint, making it an essential pilgrimage site for devotees.
As dusk sets in, immerse yourself in the divine aura of the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri. The rhythmic chants of Vedic hymns, the flickering oil lamps floating on the sacred river, and the collective devotion of thousands of pilgrims create an ethereal experience. The sight of the Ganges shimmering in the glow of countless lamps fills the heart with an indescribable sense of peace and devotion.
After the soulful experience of the Ganga Aarti, return to your hotel for a delicious dinner. Relish a wholesome meal, reflecting on the incredible spiritual journey you have undertaken over the past few days. With your heart full of divine blessings and your mind at peace, conclude the day with a restful overnight stay in Haridwar, preparing for the next phase of your pilgrimage.
As the divine journey of the Badrinath Dham Yatra comes to an end, Day 5 marks the return from Rishikesh to Delhi, carrying the spiritual essence and blissful memories of this sacred pilgrimage.
